Popular Nigerian preacher and founder of Kingsway International Christian Centre (KICC), Pastor Matthew Ashimolowo, has taken a swipe at Afro Juju music star, Sir Shina Peters, comparing his financial decisions with those of Zenith Bank founder, Jim Ovia.

While preaching on wealth and timing at the Commonwealth Zion Assembly (COZA) 12 Days of Glory, Pastor Ashimolowo urged his audience to delay gratification and make strategic financial choices.

He said, “Don’t buy a big house until you reach a certain stage in life. What do you need it for just to show off? In 1990, two men in Nigeria had ₦20 million each. One used his money to build a big house, while the other used his to start a bank.

“The house built in 1990 no longer looks modern today. Designs and systems have changed. Back then, people built four flats, but now we have contemporary structures. Today, that bank is worth about ₦20 trillion.

“I will mention the musician—it’s not a crime; it’s simply the decision he made. His name is Shina Peters. He used his ₦20 million to build a house, while Jim Ovia used his ₦20 million to start a bank.

“Now, one man is dealing with leaking roofs, broken toilets, and doors that won’t close properly. The other has bank branches in almost every African country I visit. So I’m speaking to someone today: delay your gratification, and God will lift you up.”
