Nollywood filmmaker and actor, Stanley Amandi, has found himself at the center of a major controversy, following reports of his arrest in connection with an alleged coup plot involving some Nigerian military officers.
Amandi, a director and former chairman of the Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN), Enugu State chapter was reportedly taken into custody in September 2025, although details surrounding his alleged involvement only recently surfaced.
According to sources familiar with the investigation, the filmmaker was allegedly recruited by the suspected plotters to serve as a propagandist, a role investigators believe formed part of a broader scheme aimed at unlawfully destabilising and removing President Bola Tinubu’s administration.
Confirming developments in the case, the Defence Headquarters disclosed that investigations into the alleged plot have been concluded. Authorities stated that implicated military officers will face military judicial panels, describing their actions as a serious breach of the Armed Forces’ ethical and professional standards.
Civilians linked to the matter, including Amandi, are expected to be tried in civil courts, while the affected military personnel will first undergo court-martial proceedings as the case moves into its next phase.
