The Lagos State Government has debunked reports claiming that Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu was asked to resign on health grounds, describing the story as false and misleading.

In a statement issued on Monday, the Governor’s Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Gboyega Akosile, said the report published by Sahara Reporters was “entirely false” and should be disregarded by the public.

Akosile affirmed that Governor Sanwo-Olu remains in good health, mentally fit, and fully engaged in the discharge of his official duties. He noted that there has been no directive or request from any quarters for the Governor to step down.

The statement further clarified that earlier in the day, the Governor received the Deputy Governor, Dr. Kadri Obafemi Hamzat, who paid a courtesy visit to formally inform him of his intention to contest for the governorship. According to Akosile, the meeting was cordial and in line with established protocol.

While accusing Sahara Reporters of a pattern of publishing disinformation, the state government said it deemed it necessary to respond in order to prevent the public from being misled.
