A coalition of indigenous groups from Lagos State’s five divisions have thrown their weight behind President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s bid for a second term ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Thousands of members gathered at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena in Onikan saying their endorsement was driven by the economic reforms rolled out under the Tinubu administration. They argued that the policies were already setting Nigeria on a course for recovery and renewal.
The rally drew a heavyweight crowd of traditional rulers, political leaders, and community figures. The Oba of Lagos, Oba Rilwan Aremu Akiolu, was represented by more than 10 White Cap Chiefs with his traditional staff, Obas, Chiefs, religious leaders, and key stakeholders from across the state.
Convener of the event, Chief Adesunbo Onitiri, called it a historic moment for Lagos indigenes to unite behind “one of their own” who now occupies the presidency.
“This is more than politics. It is a celebration of history, destiny, leadership, and the collective progress of Lagos indigenes,” Onitiri told the crowd.
He noted that it was the first time a Lagos indigene has become President and Commander-in-Chief, while another held a top position in a key arm of government. He described it as a point of pride for the state and urged the IBILE divisions — Ikorodu, Badagry, Ikeja, Lagos and Epe — to remain united in defending their political and cultural interests.
Onitiri praised Tinubu’s decades of political activism and nation-building, and called on Lagosians to back the continuation of the “Renewed Hope Agenda.” He asked attendees to return to their communities and mobilise voters for the president.
The convener also pushed for stronger collaboration among the five divisions beyond election cycles, saying unity was crucial to preserving Lagos heritage and securing opportunities for future generations.
Dignitaries at the event included Dr. Arc Lanre Towry Coker, Princess Adejoke Orelope-Adefulire, Dr. Remi Desalu, Sir Olusina Thorpe, Hon. Mrs. Olayinka Oladunjoye, Hon. Jimmy Benson, Hon. Dr. Samuel Ajose, Prince Tajudeen Olusi, Mr. Kola James, Hon. Alhaji Maiyegun, Alhaji Olagbaiye, and Hon.Jide Adediran (Jandor) amongst several local government chairmen and traditional rulers.
The event closed with prayers for the president and the nation, cultural displays, and chants of “Tinubu for 2027.”
