First City Monument Bank (FCMB) supported and took part in the 2026 Peak Performer Emerging Leaders’ Summit, which brought together 1,000 National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members in Lagos.

The summit, organised by The Peak Performer Africa and convened by Dr Abiola Salami, was held on August 19 at Solution Arena, Lagos. It was themed “I Move with G.R.I.T. – From Potential to Performance.”

The programme was designed to help young graduates prepare for life after NYSC. Participants learned about getting jobs, starting businesses, managing money, developing digital skills, and becoming good leaders.

The summit focused on five major areas: Get Hired, Get Digital, Get Financially Strong, Build Something and Create Impact.

Dr Abiola Salami, Founder of The Peak Performer Africa and Convener of the summit, said the programme was created to help young people turn their abilities into real achievements.

He said, “Potential is a starting point, not an outcome. Young people need the mindset, capability, and discipline to take deliberate action and produce evidence of progress.”

Representing FCMB, Olajire Awofisibe, Group Head of Retail Asset Products, joined other professionals and business leaders to discuss what young people need to get jobs, stand out at work and build successful careers.

Awofisibe also spoke to participants about managing their money. He explained the importance of budgeting, saving, responsible borrowing, using credit wisely and planning for the future, especially when receiving their first salary.

He said earning money alone does not guarantee financial security, adding that young people need to develop good money habits early in life.

The summit also featured panel discussions, practical training, music, comedy and other activities. Nigerian Idol winner Victory Gbakara and first runner-up Precious Mac also shared their experiences on the importance of preparation, discipline and courage in turning talent into success.

After the summit, participants started a 30-Day MOVE Challenge, where they worked in groups to develop projects, set goals and identify people who would benefit from their ideas. Each participant also committed to completing and documenting an action within 30 days.

FCMB said its support for the programme is part of its efforts to help young Nigerians improve their financial knowledge and workplace skills.
