Cakasa Ebenezer Foundation (CEF), the corporate social responsibility arm of Cakasa (Nig.) Company Limited, has distributed books and writing materials to 1,530 pupils across Lagos State through its 2026 Kit-A-Child back-to-school initiative.
The week-long programme, held from September 24 to 30, reached eight public primary schools in Mushin and Surulere Local Government Areas, as well as children in the Apapa community, providing essential learning materials to help pupils begin the 2026/2027 academic session.
Mushin recorded the highest number of beneficiaries, with 711 pupils across six schools, while 519 pupils benefited in two schools in Surulere. Another 300 children received learning materials through the community outreach in Apapa.
The pupils received CEF-branded pouches containing writing materials, including biros, pencils, sharpeners, erasers, and rulers, as well as exercise books to support classroom learning.
Speaking on the initiative, the Executive Director of CEF, Mrs. Helen Egbe, said the programme was designed to ease the financial burden on families and give children the confidence to pursue their educational ambitions.
“Every child deserves the opportunity to learn and excel, regardless of their background. We understand the financial demands that come with a new school year, and through Kit-A-Child, we want to support families while reminding children that their dreams are valid and their future is full of possibilities,” Egbe said.
She encouraged the pupils to take their education seriously, adding: “Your background does not determine your future. Believe in yourself, listen to your teachers, study hard and be good to one another. We want to see you grow into responsible leaders who will make a difference in your families and communities.”
The impact of the initiative was reflected in the appreciation letters received from beneficiary schools and the excitement of the pupils. At Alaba Primary School, 11-year-old Godswill Nweke, a Primary 6 pupil preparing for his Common Entrance examination, expressed his gratitude for the support.
“I am very happy. Now I have my own biros, pencils and ruler, so I don’t need to borrow from anybody. I will use them to study hard for my Common Entrance examination,” he said.
Similarly, Mr. Sule E.K., Head Teacher of Local Authority Nursery and Primary School, Orile-Iganmu, described the intervention as a valuable contribution to the pupils’ education, noting in an appreciation letter that “our learners have fresh supplies to support their daily class activities.”
Mr. Felix Adeyemi, Head Teacher of New City Primary School, Mushin, also commended the Foundation, saying the materials would provide financial relief to parents and teachers. Other beneficiary schools expressed gratitude for CEF’s continued investment in education, with some describing Mrs. Egbe as “the mother of a million children.”
Since its launch in 2020, the Kit-A-Child programme has reached 6,727 pupils, including this year’s beneficiaries. The Foundation said it would continue to expand the initiative to reach more children and communities across Lagos State.
Egbe also expressed appreciation to the programme’s partners and donors for making the 2026 edition possible. Supporting organisations included AMS Concepts Engineering Limited, Cakasa Engineering Services Limited, El-Fad Concepts Nigeria Limited, Hydra Integrated Energy Services Limited, Phildor Consulting Limited, Stephen & Oyimeh Attah Support Foundation, Vertical Project Nigeria Limited and Vibroflotation & Geotechnical Nigeria Limited.
Individual supporters included Mr. Destiny Agholor, Engr. Debo Oyekunle, Engr. Kemi Fadipe, Engr. John Onyechi, Mrs. Bose Aderele, Mrs. Juliet I. Douglas and Mrs. Titilayo Awokoya.
The Kit-A-Child initiative reflects CEF’s commitment to ensuring that a lack of basic learning materials does not stand in the way of a child’s education, reinforcing its broader mission of transforming society and changing lives.
