Former Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi’s running mate in the 2023 general election, Datti Baba-Ahmed, has revealed that he was the one who walked away from Obi, contrary to reports that the former Anambra State governor dropped him.
Datti stated that he left Obi because he believed the former presidential candidate did not have a clear plan for Nigeria.
He said: “Peter Obi did not drop me; I left him because he doesn’t have a plan for Nigeria.”
“Peter Obi knows I stood for him. I still stand by him. And it is regretful, those moves he made. But it is his choice.”
Datti also explained his position ahead of the 2027 general election, saying he would not deliberately undermine President Bola Tinubu to promote other political figures, including former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and Peter Obi.
“I don’t want to unduly disadvantage a key opponent,” he added.
Speaking further, Datti said: “I will not disadvantage President Bola Tinubu to unnecessarily promote Baba Atiku and Peter Obi and others. Because we have to be fair in life. And that’s what I stand for.”
