Delta TUC Hails Oborevwori, Names Governor ‘Ukodo The Pace Setter’ Over 13th-Month Salary

The Trade Union Congress of Nigeria (TUC), Delta State Council, has conferred the title of “Ukodo the Pace Setter” on Governor Sheriff Oborevwori in recognition of his administration’s decision to institutionalise the payment of 13th-month salary to public servants in the state.

The labour union described the initiative as a significant boost to workers’ welfare, particularly amid prevailing economic challenges that have continued to put pressure on the finances of workers and their families.

In a statement signed by its chairman, Comrade Wilson Asekutu, the TUC said the decision to give the additional salary a legal backing demonstrated the government’s recognition of the contributions of workers to the growth and development of Delta State.

According to the union, the title, “Ukodo the Pace Setter”, reflects its appreciation of the governor’s commitment to improving workers’ welfare through policies that provide tangible benefits.

The TUC noted that workers who feel valued and adequately supported are more likely to remain motivated, productive and committed to their responsibilities.

It reaffirmed its willingness to work with the state government in promoting good governance, sustainable development and policies that improve the living conditions of workers and other residents.

The union, however, stressed that its relationship with the government would continue to be guided by constructive engagement, mutual respect and social dialogue.

It said organised labour would commend policies that advance workers’ interests while continuing to engage the government on issues requiring attention.

The TUC also urged the state government to sustain its engagement with labour unions and pursue policies capable of strengthening workers’ purchasing power, improving productivity and protecting their dignity.

Addressing workers across the state, the union said the introduction of the 13th-month salary underscored the importance of sustained dialogue between government and organised labour in achieving beneficial outcomes.

It urged public servants to reciprocate the gesture by remaining dedicated to their duties and contributing to the effective delivery of public services.

Expressing appreciation to Oborevwori on behalf of its leadership and members, the TUC said the governor had taken a notable step towards improving the welfare of the Delta workforce.

“Your Excellency, you have taken a bold step in workers’ welfare. You have set a pace. Ukodo the Pace Setter,” the statement said.
