Veteran Nollywood actor and member of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Desmond Elliot, has apologised to President Bola Tinubu’s Chief of Staff, Femi Gbajabiamila, following a disagreement over the All Progressives Congress (APC) primary election conducted in May to select its candidate for the Surulere Constituency I seat.
Elliot was recently spotted in a video circulating online kneeling before Gbajabiamila and pleading for forgiveness. He also appealed to the former Speaker of the House of Representatives to accept him back into the APC fold in Lagos.
“I’m sorry. I have no excuse. I have nothing other than to say I’m deeply sorry, and I am hoping to be cultured in the future,” Elliot said.
Recall that Elliot had accused the party leadership of intimidation, alleging that his supporters were subjected to political pressure during the primary election. This prompted him to withdraw from the exercise.
However, he later rejected the outcome of the election, vowing to challenge the process through the party’s appeal mechanism.
Elliot eventually lost the APC ticket to his female contender, Barakat Odunuga-Bakare, who was believed to have the backing of Gbajabiamila.
Odunuga-Bakare polled 11,385 votes to defeat Elliot, who secured only 270 votes in the primary.
