New York’s Marriott Marquis played host once more to one of the diaspora’s biggest nights of the year, as DJ Damiger returned for a third consecutive year to headline the Unstoppable Africa Gala, hosted by the Foundation for the Global Compact, an organization advancing the United Nations Global Compact’s mission of corporate sustainability, in the hotel’s Broadway Ballroom.
For three and a half hours, the DJ and producer turned a room full of
diplomats, business leaders, and changemakers into a dance floor, weaving Afrobeats, Amapiano, and Afro-Fusion into a set built for a crowd as global as the mission behind the evening itself.
It’s become something of a tradition at this point. Damiger has now
closed out three straight years of this gala, and each time, the assignment is the same: make a ballroom full of people from every corner of the world feel, if only for a night, like they’re home. “Every year this event gets bigger, and every year I get to bring a little more of home into a room like that,” Damiger said. “Music has always been the thing that makes people forget the room they’re in and just feel something together. That’s what Sunday was about.”
The gala is part of the Foundation’s broader push to spotlight African innovation and partnership on the world stage, and Damiger’s set has become a signature piece of how that message lands in the room, proof that the biggest conversations in the world can still make space for a good song.
