Officials of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) in Benin have arrested a football agent, Osagie Destiny Etinosa, for allegedly defrauding an aspiring player of ₦11 million.
The suspect, who operated under the Instagram handle @officialking_etto, reportedly posed as a football agent specialising in connecting players with foreign clubs for trials and recruitment opportunities.
According to the EFCC, Etinosa allegedly collected ₦11 million from Samuel Beke Ohazuruike after promising to secure trials with clubs abroad. However, the opportunities never materialised, and efforts by the victim to recover his money proved unsuccessful.
“In one instance, Etinosa allegedly collected the sum of ₦11,000,000 from Samuel Beke Ohazuruike with the promise of securing trials for him in Romanian and Bulgarian clubs, which never materialised,” the EFCC stated.
The anti-graft agency added that the suspect was apprehended following an open-source intelligence investigation and is expected to be arraigned in court soon.
