The news of popular Nigerian-British boxer, Anthony Joshua’s involvement in a ghastly road accident sent shockwaves across the internet on Monday, December 28, 2025, following reports that two persons lost their lives in the incident.
However, fresh details have since emerged, with the Ogun and Lagos State Governments confirming that Joshua was involved in a road traffic accident on Monday morning along the Lagos–Ibadan Expressway.
In a joint statement issued by the two state governments, the accident occurred when the vehicle conveying Joshua and three other occupants reportedly collided with a stationary truck. The incident tragically claimed the lives of two persons at the scene.
The governments expressed deep condolences to the families of the deceased, describing the incident as a painful loss, and prayed for strength and comfort for those affected.
According to the statement, Anthony Joshua and another passenger were immediately evacuated to a specialised medical facility in Lagos, where they underwent thorough medical examinations. Doctors have confirmed that both are stable and do not require emergency medical intervention, although they remain under close observation by a dedicated medical team.
The statement further disclosed that Joshua is conscious and has been in contact with his family.
Both state governments assured the public that they are closely monitoring the situation to ensure optimal medical care for the survivors, while investigations into the cause of the accident have commenced.
The public was also urged to respect the privacy of Anthony Joshua and his family during this period.
