Glo Extends Ofala Sponsorship To 15 Years, Celebrates 25th Anniversary Of Obi Achebe’s Reign

Globacom has announced its partnership with the people of Onitsha as official sponsor of the 2026 Ofala Festival, a landmark edition that marks the 25th Ofala of the reign of the Obi of Onitsha, Igwe Nnaemeka Alfred Achebe.

With the  theme “Igba Mbo, Iga N’Iru – Strive and Advance: From Resilience to Progress,” the 2026 edition brings into focus the resilience, enterprise and forward-looking spirit that have characterised the history of Ndi Onicha.

For Globacom, the occasion represents another chapter in a relationship with Ofala that has lasted more than 15 years, reinforcing the company’s commitment to using its platform and resources to preserve, promote and project Nigeria’s cultural heritage.

The telecommunications company said its continued association with Ofala reflects its conviction that culture remains a powerful force for identity, community development and national progress. “Ofala is far more than an annual cultural celebration. It is a living expression of identity, continuity and collective aspiration,” Globacom said.

The company opined that its sustained partnership with the magnificent institution reflects its  belief that preserving heritage and advancing society are not competing imperatives, but  “mutually reinforcing pillars of a progressive nation.”

It noted that the festival’s 2026 theme also resonates strongly with its “Never Settle for Less” philosophy, which encourages Nigerians to value their foundations while continually pursuing greater possibilities.

“Never Settle for Less is a philosophy of progress: to respect the foundations upon which we stand, while seeking to broaden possibilities, deepen impact and move the nation forward. We are proud to support a cultural institution that honours its roots while engaging the future,” the company added.

This year’s  edition will feature a range of activities designed to showcase the richness of Onitsha heritage and connect tradition with contemporary community development. These include the Obi’s sacred period of seclusion and ceremonial emergence, the Medical, Health and Wellbeing Community Outreach, the international Oreze Art Exhibition, the Youth Carnival, and the festival’s grand climax featuring Iru Ofala and Azu Ofala.

Globacom’s support of these activities, the company explained, goes beyond conventional sponsorship. It is part of its broader commitment to corporate citizenship and cultural stewardship, hinged on its recognition of the role of cultural institutions in preserving collective memory and strengthening shared communal identity.

“Just as Ofala draws strength from ancestral foundations while looking towards the future, Globacom has continued to champion connectivity, innovation and digital inclusion as tools for expanding opportunity”, the company added.

The digital solutions provider said its partnership with Ofala reflects a shared belief that progress is strongest when it is rooted in identity and heritage. Through its continued support for the festival, Globacom is reaffirming its commitment to a Nigeria where cultural heritage is preserved, communities are empowered and tradition continues to serve as a springboard for progress.
