Hon. Adekunle Abdulkabir Akinlade, prominent political figure and former Deputy Governorship candidate of Ogun State, has officially resigned from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), citing ongoing internal conflicts and leadership challenges within the party’s Ogun State chapter.
In a detailed press statement released on Monday 26th, 2025, Akinlade revealed that his decision followed extensive consultations with party members, political associates, and family. He described persistent unresolved crises within the state chapter that have severely undermined efforts to build a more inclusive and democratic party.
According to Akinlade, despite genuine commitments by his group to strengthen the party, they faced deliberate obstruction and institutional bias from both the zonal and national leadership. He criticized the National Working Committee (NWC) for siding with a faction in Ogun State, which he said contravened the PDP’s constitutional mandates and principles of fairness.
He specifically pointed to the controversy surrounding the 2024 Local Government and State Congresses, where a parallel membership register was recognized by the NWC, overriding the legitimate register his group submitted, a register containing over 49,000 verified names. This move, Akinlade explained, sparked parallel congresses and legal battles that continue to divide the party at all levels.
Further disappointment followed during the recent PDP South West Zonal Congress, where his bloc was excluded from meaningful participation, consolidating control in the hands of one faction and missing chances for reconciliation.
Highlighting the growing defections and national turmoil within the PDP, Akinlade expressed his inability to remain associated with a party whose internal processes are marred by selective justice and institutional partiality.
While tendering his resignation with immediate effect, he assured his supporters that after further consultations, he will soon announce his next political steps.
Akinlade thanked members of the Triple A Political Family and loyal supporters across Ogun State and beyond for their unwavering faith and commitment to a shared vision of progress.
