Many people may not know how Musiliu Akinsanya, popularly known as MC Oluomo, rose to become the President of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW).
Speaking at an event in Lagos, MC Oluomo shared the story of his humble beginnings. He revealed that he started working as a bus conductor at the age of 13 to support himself and his family.
He said: “I’ve been working and earning money since I was 13 years old. I worked as a bus conductor from 12 p.m. to 6 p.m. After work, I would go to Danjuma Cinema to watch Indian movies with my own money. I also gave my mother money to buy food.
“That was how I started before getting to where I am today. I didn’t join the NURTW by chance. I learned the job, understood it well, and worked my way to the top.
“I didn’t go to school, but I believe the experience and knowledge I have are greater than what many degree holders have. Even though I wasn’t educated, I’m grateful to God. Today, my children are successful—a doctor, a lawyer, and an engineer and they all live in America. I pray God continues to protect them and give them long life.”
