The Kwara Development Foundation, KWADEF has lamented the siege on the people owning to the unending insecurity across the State.
The latest, after series of killings across the South and Northern Senatorial state peaked with the notice of attack dropped at Ira, a community in Oyun Local Council last week, has triggered a lot of anxiety in and outside the North Central State.
A group claiming to be Nigerian Terrorists Association, [NTA] has written to some Yoruba communities in the State promising to invade, rape and kill locals.
The group listed its mission as kidnapping, raiding and killing.
The one page letter notified its intention to attack the communities anytime from now.
The letter stated “This is message from Nigerian Terrorist Organisation. Our Motto: We kill, we kidnapping and we Destroying. No town or place that scared us to destroy. We search and gather information before we raid. We heard about this town Ira. You people are strong and have powerful people to face us
“Be ready for us at any time, any day. Nothing concerns us about your oracle or powerful man. We left Kaiama Local Government, we move to Ira, Igbaja and Aho, and town surrounded.”
The traditional ruler of the town Onira of Ira said the community is aware of the threat. He called on the Federal and State Government to come to the community’s aid..
The Local Government Chairman Kamal Olanrewaju said the terrorists promised to attack the communities adding that the Local Government is getting ready to ensure peace and stability in the area.
Shortly after, an attempted invasion by armed bandits in Gbugbu community on February 14, 2026 was successfully intercepted by security operatives.
According to local sources, the attackers attempted to enter the town but were repelled by gallant soldiers who swiftly responded to the threat.
Their intervention prevented what residents feared could have escalated into a major security breach.
Gbugbu is a community under the Lafiagi Emirate in Edu Local Government Area of Kwara State. The town is located approximately two hours from Yagba West Local Government Area of Kogi State, a neighboring region that has also faced security concerns in recent times.
The KWADEF has also condemned the trend and threat, saying the government should halt the trend and stamp out the ugly scenario.
Dr. Kolawole Afolabi, the President of the group in a statement, lamented the trend and called on the Government to scale up the response and tactics to boost the confidence of the people in the capacity of the government to protect them.
He added that security remains the basis for economic and political stability and the no nation can thrive without peace and secuity.
According to him, “the story of Kwara known as the State of Harmony, is now a sorry state due to the recent killings in many parts of the State. This is very unfortunate to say the least. The government must do sometning to areent the trend urgently.”
The government also came under attack last week amid heightened tension in the state following the circulation of a disturbing video by suspected terrorists, allegedly showing some victims from the February 3 attack on Woro community in Kaiama Local Government Area.
Reacting to the footage on Saturday, the Kwara State Government, in a statement issued by the Commissioner for Communications, Bolanle Olukoju, said authorities were working with security agencies and local stakeholders to analyse the video and establish the identities of those shown.
“The Kwara State Government is deeply concerned over the disturbing video released by terrorists earlier today, allegedly showing some persons taken during the tragic February 3 attack on Woro community.”
“Government officials and security agencies are carefully analysing the video to establish the identities of the individuals shown.”
The government noted that conflicting accounts regarding the number of abducted persons had complicated official confirmation.
KWADEF however warned and urged the government to take the bull by the horn an end the ugly chapter in the story of Kwara state and let the badly need peace return to the State of Harmony.
