Nollywood film critic and broadcaster, Tolu Fagbure, has criticised popular Nollywood actress. Eniola Ajao, questioning her acting abilities and place in the film industry.
In a viral video, Fagbure was asked about the actress and openly shared his opinion about her career. While acknowledging that Ajao is beautiful, he argued that her looks alone cannot guarantee the success of a movie.
He also compared her with fellow Yoruba actress, Mide Martins, describing Martins as a better actor and one of the most underrated actresses in the Yoruba film industry.
Fagbure said: “Eniola Ajao doesn’t have a business in the cinema. She is in the same block with Odunlade Adekola. I don’t think her acting has a place. I don’t think she is acting at all.
“She has a fine face, all right. Plastic delivery. The only thing going for her is her fine face. That’s admirable. I don’t think she has talents, let alone developed them into skills.”
When the interviewer expressed dismay over his comments, Fagbure clarified that they were simply his personal opinion.
He continued: “That’s my opinion. My opinion is not sacrosanct. She cannot sell anything… Put Eniola Ajao on the poster, even with her fine face, she will still would not sell. Mide Martins is a better actor.
“One of the most underrated actors in the Yoruba film industry is Mide Martins. Why? Because she has made herself scatter up and down. She has conditioned herself to be a shouting person, and they will now say she has no sense.
“There are some films that she did where she didn’t need to shout. That is acting. She is an underrated actor because she is in the shouting league. Take away the shouting from her and find a director who will work with her; then you will know that she has a lot of potential.
“I am sorry, I don’t see any talent in Eniola Ajao. Look at it; you will see it in the volume of her jobs. How many people are calling her? If you are good, people will use you.
“So, my own opinion is her affinity. And when I say affinity, I mean her friendship or closeness to Odunlade. He tried to put her in everybody’s face, and when you put her in everybody’s face in a lot of films, she’s in everybody’s face. But immediately Odunlade left her, what happened?
“What happened? When you move to a point and you don’t have the requisite skill, the world will leave you where you are. That is what happened to her.”
