Becoming a sexagenarian in a society where life expectancy now hovers between 45 and 50 is no mean milestone. It was therefore no surprise that friends, family and associates turned out in their numbers on Sunday, February 8, 2026 to identify with Mrs Stella Nwazu and celebrate her as she turned 60.
Mrs Nwazu, a devout Catholic and ex banker kicked started her 60th birthday celebration at the Holy Family Catholic Church, Festac Town, Lagos, where she is a prominent Parishioner, with a Thanksgiving Mass on her birthday 3rd of February 2026 and followed it up shortly with a visit to the Old People’s Home at Regina Mundi Catholic Church, Mushin.
A week later, on Sunday the 8th of February 2026, she hosted guests to a lavish birthday bash at the Holy Family Event Centre, 32/41 Rd, Opposite First Bank, Festac. Born in Lagos.
Mrs Stella Nwachi Nneka Nwazu hails from Oshimili North local government area of Delta state. Her early education was at Our Lady of Apostle Primary School, Yaba.
The young Stella later procceded to Federal Government Girl’s College, Potiskum and Bauchi respectively for her secondary education.
She is a 1988 graduate of English and Literary Studies from the University of Calabar.
Mrs Nwazu later went on to the university of Lagos for her Diploma in Management and later Masters in Business Administration, (MBA). She is also an alumnus of Queen’s College yaba Lagos where she did her ‘A’ Levels and the prestigious Lagos Business School – SMP 31.
Mrs Nwazu’s started her working career( NYSC) as a press correspondent in the office of the Press Secretary to the Military Governor of Kastina State.
At the end of her Youth service, she commenced her banking career with Union Bank Plc and later the defunct Chartered Bank, where she spent ten years. Thereafter, she moved to the defunct Intercontinental Bank PLC and spent another ten years, before retiring on June 12, 2009.
Married to Mr. Eugene Nwabueze Nwazu of Ahaba Diei Quarters,Issele Mkpitime, Aniocha North LGA, Delta state, Mrs Nwazu is noted for her passion for working in the Lord’s vineyard. This can be gleaned from the number of organisations she belongs to and the positions she has held at the Holy Family Catholic Church.
For example, Mrs Nwazu is a member of the Catholic Women Organisation, (CWO).
She was also the Secretary and later President of the Association of Sacred Heart of Jesus and Immaculate Heart of Mary.
She has headed several Committees in the Parish over the years, notable amongst which are Chairman, planning Committee of the Holy Family Catholic Church’s 40th Anniversary. Chairman, Laity week, Parish Laity Council.
She has also held other positions such as, Head Budget and Planning, Parish Finance council, 2nd Vice Chairperson, Parish Pastoral Council among others.
She is also, Patron to the following groups in church: The Catholic Youth Organization, The Choir Council and St. Anthony of Padua Festac Deanery.
She is currently a management consultant and a facilitator of the Lagos Archdiocesan Engagement management program (AEMP), helping to train 21st century leaders in the Church.
Mrs Nwazu is a proud mother of adorable children to the glory of God.
