Thursday, August 21st, 2025 is Professor Regina Chinwe Onwuchekwa’s day with history. That day, the erudite scholar and a proud daughter of Akokwa in Ideato North local government area of Imo will dazzle an array of academics and students of the University of PortHarcourt( Uniport) as well as other invited guests with rare medical revelations as she delivers the institution’s 201st inaugural lecture themed, “Unraveling The Mystery of Gray Shadows, Pains of the Head and Low Back.”
The event will take place at CBN Centre of Excellence building, University Park, Abuja campus. Professor Onwuchekwa who is of the Department of Radiology, Faculty of Clinical Sciences of Uniport has 30 years experience in medical practice and 24 years experience as an expert in Radiology and as a University lecturer.
Essentially, in the university setting, an inaugural lecture is an epoch-making event in the life of academics on attainment of the peak of their careers. Inaugural lecture is a rare honour accorded to a given academic and an opportunity for such academic to speak to the world about his or her achievements in research and academic activities that earned him or her the enviable rank of professor.
As a medical practitioner and a lecturer in the College of Health Sciences of University of Port Harcourt with a specialty in Radiology, Professor Onwuchekwa rose to the rank of professor of Radiology in October 2018.
Speaking on her forthcoming Inaugural lecture, the erudite scholar invited people from all walks of life, including her Akokwa kins to grace the occasion and tap from her rich medical knowledge and background. Her words: “On the 21st of August 2025, I am coming out to speak to the town and gown on my achievements in research. I invite each and every member of the society, Nigerians of diverse backgrounds- professionals, technocrats, medical practitioners, medical students, stakeholders in the health sector, captains of industry, friends, associates and well wishers- to come, be with me and hear from me what I have been doing in the past 24 years as a Radiologist and a lecturer in the medical school.
