Famous Nigerian preacher and founder of Kingsway International Christian Centre (KICC), Pastor Matthew Ashimolowo, has set social media buzzing after taking a pointed swipe at Afro Juju legend, Sir Shina Peters, during a recent sermon.

The drama unfolded at the Commonwealth Zion Assembly (COZA) 12 Days of Glory, where Pastor Ashimolowo, preaching on wealth and timing, used a real-life comparison to drive home his message on delayed gratification and financial wisdom.

According to him, two Nigerian men reportedly had ₦20 million each in 1990. While one chose to invest his money in building a massive house, the other allegedly used his funds to establish a bank.

Without mincing words, the cleric claimed the house built decades ago has now lost its appeal due to changing designs and aging infrastructure, while the bank has grown into a financial giant worth trillions of naira with branches across Africa. He went on to name the house owner as Juju music icon Sir Shina Peters, while crediting the banking success to Zenith Bank founder, Jim Ovia.

“One man is now battling leaking roofs, broken toilets and doors that won’t close properly,” Ashimolowo said, adding that the other now owns a bank with branches in every African country he visits. He concluded by urging his audience to delay gratification, insisting that divine lifting follows wise decisions.

As expected, the video quickly went viral, sparking heated debates online and drawing reactions from fans and celebrities alike.

Breaking his silence, Sir Shina Peters responded with calm confidence and spiritual grace. Taking to his Instagram Story on Wednesday, the music legend thanked Daddy Showkey for bringing the video to his attention and made it clear he had no intention of engaging in a public feud.

He wrote; “Thanks to @daddyshowkey for speaking on this matter and bringing it to my attention. I’m not one to judge people and their opinions of me, but as a man of God myself, and for the sake of the legacy of our Christ Jesus, I will not be taking legal actions nor will I speak ill against you, despite your false & derogatory statements.

“God has really blessed me beyond words, you can’t even begin to imagine the blessings of God upon my life all these decades. People close to me know what I’m talking about. On the other hand, God being a loving father that He is, has also blessed you, His son, @matthewashimolowo.official.

“How we use our blessings to set good examples for people is what matters now. May God almighty continue to bless all my fans all over the world. Amen.”
