Renowned human rights activist, Aisha Yesufu, has launched a fiery attack on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, accusing him of dismantling Nigeria’s democratic institutions.
Taking to her X (formerly Twitter) handle, Yesufu did not mince words:
“We are watching Tinubu destroying every fabric of our institutions. Desecrating them!”
Her explosive remarks come in response to the president’s controversial one-year extension of the tenure of Comptroller-General of the Nigeria Customs Service, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi.
Originally appointed in October 2023 after a stint as acting CG, Adeniyi’s term was scheduled to end on August 31, 2025. However, following Tinubu’s latest directive, he will now remain in office until August 2026.
Critics, led by voices like Yesufu, argue that the extension is yet another sign of what they see as executive overreach and the gradual erosion of institutional independence.
