Former Minister of Power, Saleh Mamman has been convicted over a multi-billion naira fraud case.
A Federal High Court in Abuja found Mamman guilty of money laundering involving about ₦33.8 billion.
Justice James Omotosho delivered the judgment, convicting the former minister on all 12 counts filed against him by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
The court ruled that the EFCC proved its case beyond reasonable doubt and established Mamman’s involvement in the financial crimes.
According to the EFCC, the ₦33.8 billion fraud involved funds meant for major power projects, including the Mambilla Hydroelectric Power Project and Zungeru Hydroelectric Power Station projects.
Mamman was accused of working with ministry officials and private individuals to divert public funds through suspicious transactions during his time in office.
For those who don’t know, Mamman served as Minister of Power under former President Muhammadu Buhari from August 21, 2019, until his removal during a cabinet reshuffle on September 1, 2021.
