US Embassy Abuja Delegation Visits KADIFF, Explores Creative Industry Collaboration With Kaduna Filmmakers

The Kaduna International Film Festival (KADIFF) on Monday welcomed a delegation from the Embassy of the United States of America, Abuja, led by Raisa Dukas, Acting Country Public Diplomacy Counselor and Public Diplomacy Officer, for a strategic meeting and engagement with KADIFF and members of the Kaduna filmmaking and creative community in Kaduna state Nigeria.

The visit provided an important platform for discussions on strengthening cultural diplomacy, supporting filmmakers and young creatives, promoting international cultural exchange, and exploring opportunities for collaboration between the United States Embassy, KADIFF and Kaduna’s wider creative ecosystem.

Welcoming the delegation, the Director General of Kaduna International Film Festival, Israel Kashim Audu, expressed his appreciation to the Embassy for its interest in engaging with Kaduna’s creative community.

Audu emphasized that film is more than entertainment, describing it as a powerful instrument for storytelling, cultural preservation, youth empowerment, tourism promotion, dialogue and building bridges between communities and nations.

He noted that the upcoming 9th Kaduna International Film Festival, themed “Cultural Renaissance,” is designed not merely as a film event but as a sustainable platform connecting filmmakers, young creatives, students, institutions, policymakers, investors and international partners.

«“We believe that film is more than entertainment. Film is a powerful tool for telling our stories, preserving our cultural heritage, creating opportunities for young people, promoting tourism, encouraging dialogue and building bridges across communities and nations,” Audu said

The KADIFF DG further highlighted areas of potential cooperation with the United States Embassy, including filmmaking training, youth empowerment, cultural exchange, digital storytelling, innovation and technology, women and youth participation in the creative economy, and international cultural partnerships.

He particularly stressed the importance of creating practical opportunities for young Nigerians to acquire skills, access international knowledge and networks, and connect with global creative markets.

The meeting also underscored Kaduna’s potential as an important centre for creative and cultural exchange in Northern Nigeria, given the state’s rich history, cultural diversity and growing creative community.

The engagement with the US Embassy delegation also brought together members of the Kaduna filmmaking community, creating an opportunity for filmmakers and creative practitioners to share perspectives, challenges and aspirations for the development of the creative industry.

The discussions are expected to contribute to identifying areas of mutual interest and possible future programmes that can strengthen the capacity of young filmmakers and creatives while expanding opportunities for international collaboration.

The Kaduna International Film Festival expressed its readiness to continue engaging with the Embassy of the United States of America and other international partners in developing initiatives that promote cultural understanding, creative entrepreneurship, skills development and opportunities for young people.

The visit comes as KADIFF prepares for its 9th edition from August 25–29, 2026, at Kaduna State University, under the theme “Cultural Renaissance.”

KADIFF reaffirmed its commitment to using film and the creative economy as platforms for cultural diplomacy, youth development, innovation and international collaboration.
