Nigeria’s First Lady, Oluremi Tinubu, has appealed to Nigerians not to lose hope despite the current economic hardship in the country.
Speaking about the challenges many people are facing, she said her office has continued to support poor and vulnerable Nigerians through grants, healthcare projects and empowerment programmes.
According to her, the aim is to give people hope and help them become self-reliant. She explained that many small businesses, such as frying akara, roasting corn and making kulikuli, can be started with little money.
She said the beneficiaries of the programme were given grants, not loans, meaning they do not have to pay the money back.
“We didn’t give them a loan. We gave it to them as a grant,” she said, adding that her office has continued to help Nigerians in every way possible.
The First Lady also spoke about her support for the health sector. She revealed that she donated ₦2 billion to fight tuberculosis after discovering that many Nigerians were suffering from the disease. She also donated ₦1 billion to support breast cancer treatment and ₦500 million to tackle food malnutrition.
She added that her office has also invested in agriculture, education, scholarships, ICT training and other social intervention programmes, saying she is ready to do even more.
Oluremi Tinubu admitted that many Nigerians are going through difficult times but urged them not to give up. She said the country’s economic situation has made life harder for many families, but they should continue to have hope.
She linked her message to President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, saying Nigerians must keep believing that things will get better.
She ended her message by encouraging citizens to remain strong and hopeful, describing Nigerians as a proud people who should never give up.
