Popular Lagos-based cleric and political mobilizer, Amb Prof Godwin Ikuru, has officially declared his intention to contest for the Delta Central Senatorial seat in the 2027 general elections under the platform of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), with a strong promise to bring hope, change and unprecedented transformation to his people.

The declaration, which is already gaining massive grassroots momentum as seen in his billboard campaign with the slogan “Stronger Grassroots, Greater Delta, Brighter Future!”, is anchored on a clear vision: to replicate the Lagos development masterplan in Delta Central.

Addressing journalists in Lagos, Prophet Ikuru, who has lived in Lagos State for over three decades, said he has been a direct witness to the progressive transformation of Lagos from 1999 till date.

According to him, he saw first-hand how Lagos was transformed under the leadership of Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Mr. Babatunde Raji Fashola, Mr. Akinwunmi Ambode, and presently Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, who have collectively turned Lagos into a mega-city and Africa’s economic pride.

“I have been in Lagos for over 30 years. I have seen Lagos transformed before my eyes. From Asiwaju Ahmed Tinubu who laid the foundation, to Fashola who built on it, to Ambode and now Sanwo-Olu who have continued to transform Lagos to where it is today. I am highly impressed with the development of Lagos State,” Ikuru stated.

He however expressed deep disappointment over the underdevelopment of Delta State, despite being one of Nigeria’s highest oil-producing states.

“Delta State is an oil-producing state, but I am not impressed with the present development of Delta State. Especially the local government where I come from in Delta Central, there is no good road, no good hospital, no good infrastructure, nothing has been transformed in an oil-producing state. Our people are suffering despite the huge wealth that comes from our land,” he lamented.

The Urhobo-born Godwin Ikuru said his decision to contest is not for personal aggrandizement but a divine assignment and a burning desire to give back to his people using the administrative and developmental knowledge he has garnered from Lagos.

“I count it as my turn to transform Delta State, especially Delta Central, using what I learnt from the past and present governors of Lagos State who have ruled Lagos State till now. It is now my turn to take what I learned to my people in Delta Central to make it a better place.”

Issuing a strong warning to detractors, Ikuru said anyone who fights his aspiration is an enemy of Delta Central progress.

“Anyone who will fight against me means he doesn’t want the progress of Delta Central to come to reality. This is not about politics, this is about the future of our children,” he declared.

He therefore made a passionate appeal to all sons and daughters of Urhobo nation, both at home and in the diaspora, to join hands with him in this grassroots mobilization movement.

“I am calling on all the Urhobo people to join hands with me. The time has come. Enough is enough. I will bring changes, hope and transformation to the people of Delta Central. Together, we will build a Delta Central that we will all be proud of,” he concluded.

With his campaign billboards already dotting strategic locations and his grassroots structures being activated across the eight local government areas of Delta Central, political observers say Amb Godwin Ikuru’s entry into the 2027 senatorial race has added a new dynamic to the political landscape of Delta State.
