Former Big Brother Naija ‘Pepper Dem’ housemate, Natacha Akide, popularly known as Tacha has slammed Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State for banning the protest against the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) in the state.
Tacha has taken to her Twitter page to express her displeasure on the Governor whom she has so much respect for.
She wrote; “With all due respect to your Excellency, you are a lawyer and I believe you know better, this is a democracy system and Rivers State belongs to all the daughters and sons of the state.”
“It is our right to peaceful protest against police brutality.”
“Gov. Wike, we flew into this state today to fight for a better Nigeria, to walk the walk, to fight for a better today and tomorrow!! Why should we be deprived of our right!! Why?”
“Gov. Wike sons and daughters of Rivers State stood through the night to defend our votes for you! only for you to deprive us of our right to peacefully protest.”
For those who don’t know, Governor Nyesom Wike had on Monday, October 12th, 2020 banned the planned anti-EndSARS protest scheduled to hold in the state on Tuesday. According to Wike the ban became necessary following the dissolution of SARS by the Inspector General of Police, Mohammed Adamu.
The Commissioner for Information and Communications in the State disclosed this via the official Twitter page.
He wrote; “The Rivers State Government hereby wish to inform the general public that all forms of protests have been banned throughout the State. Therefore, all proposed protests under #EndSars Campaign are hereby prohibited.”
