In a significant step towards strengthening collaboration between academia and the creative industry, Bingham University and Kaduna International Film Festival officially signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) aimed at fostering partnerships in film, arts, culture, research, and youth development.
The MoU signing ceremony took place at the University campus in the presence of the Vice Chancellor of Bingham University, Prof. Haruna Kuje Ayuba, alongside other principal officers and members of the University management team.
Representing KADIFF at the event were the Director General, Audu Kashim Israel, and Ibrahim Abdul.
Speaking during the ceremony, both institutions emphasized the importance of bridging the gap between academic learning and the rapidly growing creative industry in Nigeria and Africa at large. The partnership is expected to create opportunities for students, filmmakers, researchers, and creative professionals through practical engagement, training, and innovation.
Key areas of collaboration captured in the MoU include academic engagements such as lectures, seminars, masterclasses, and knowledge-sharing sessions to be delivered by University lecturers during KADIFF events and activities.
The agreement also provides for the hosting of KADIFF programs within the University environment, including film screenings, book readings, poetry sessions, creative workshops, exhibitions, and other cultural activities to enrich students’ exposure to the arts and entertainment industry.
One of the major highlights of the partnership is the proposed establishment of a Film Institute within the premises of Bingham University. Under the arrangement, the University will provide land allocation for the project while KADIFF will offer technical expertise, industry support, and professional collaborations towards the development of the institute.
The collaboration will further encourage student participation in the annual KADIFF Film Festival through film submissions, drama performances, and other creative showcases designed to nurture young talents.
Additionally, both parties agreed to explore joint research initiatives, internship opportunities, and strategic creative industry linkages that will benefit students and practitioners alike.
The MoU signing marks a new chapter in the advancement of film education, cultural exchange, and creative enterprise development between the two institutions, reinforcing their shared commitment to empowering the next generation of African storytellers and creatives.
