The Generational Prophet of God and Senior Pastor of Grace Nation Global, Dr Chris Okafor, has declared that paying tithes is a Christian obligation, stressing that God is the ultimate source of wealth and financial resources.
According to him, God blesses believers with riches not merely for personal enjoyment but also to enable them to serve Him and advance His work.
Dr Okafor made this declaration during the Divine Intervention and Breakthrough Sunday Service held at the international headquarters of Grace Nation Global in Ojodu-Berger, Lagos, Nigeria.
The popular Lagos-based preacher, who returned to Nigeria shortly before the service following the successful Mighty Turn Around Conference in Kitwe, Zambia, also addressed the controversy surrounding the payment of tithes.
He explained that 10 per cent of a person’s income was relatively small compared with God’s blessings, describing tithing as a divine instruction that believers should obey.
“God is the source of the funds everyone is debating about. He gives you the power to make wealth. So, returning 10 per cent to Him is not too much. In fact, 10 per cent is too small compared with what God does,” Dr Okafor said.
Speaking on the theme, “Stewardship,” the cleric explained that true stewardship involves knowing God and obeying His instructions without making excuses.
“To know God, you must obey all His instructions. Stewardship is not about what you give, but about your obedience to divine principles. Lack of faithfulness will always give you excuses not to serve God,” he stated.
He noted that many Christians struggle because they do not fully understand the principle of stewardship. He stressed that everything a person possesses comes from God and should be managed in a manner that brings glory to Him.
“Paying tithe is mandatory because everything comes from God. When you pay your tithe, you are telling God that you acknowledge Him as your source. God does not need your money, but He wants to see your faithfulness,” the Generational Prophet added.
Dr Okafor further urged Christians to demonstrate faithfulness in every area of their lives, including their time, talents and material resources. He noted that faithful stewardship is an important principle in the Christian walk.
The service featured testimonies, deliverance, healing and prophetic declarations, as worshippers received words of knowledge and prayers addressing their various challenges.
Dr Okafor recently returned from Zambia, where Grace Nation Global held its Mighty Turn Around Conference in Kitwe. The programme featured testimonies, healings and other reported miracles, with worshippers gathering to seek divine intervention and restoration.
