Drama unfolded on Wednesday as operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission reportedly stormed the Abuja office and private residences of former Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami, in both Abuja and Kebbi State.
Confirming the raids, Malami’s media aide, Mohammed Doka, said the operation was allegedly aimed at seizing Chapter 9 of the controversial Justice Ayo Salami Judicial Commission of Inquiry report — a section believed to contain sensitive findings involving top government officials.
Malami’s camp didn’t hold back, accusing EFCC chairman Ola Olukoyede of bias and demanding his recusal from any matter involving the former AGF. They described the raids as “deeply alarming,” alleging intimidation and retaliation following Malami’s recent public comments referencing the report.
The commission, set up in 2021 to probe alleged abuses within the EFCC during the tenure of former chairman Ibrahim Magu, submitted its findings to the Presidency in November 2021, but the report remains largely under wraps.
Calling for transparency, Malami urged the Federal Government to release the full report — especially Chapter 9 — insisting he is ready to face any lawful investigation, but not “raids and media trials.”
As of press time, the EFCC had yet to officially respond.
