These, are the best of time for former Ekiti State Governor, Ayodele Fayose as he has now been exonerated in the N2.2 billion money laundering case.
A Federal High Court sitting in Lagos on Tuesday, July 15, 2025 discharged and acquitted Fayose of all charges in the long-running N2.2 billion money laundering case brought against him by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
The court, in a ruling delivered on Tuesday upheld Fayose’s no-case submission, stating that the EFCC had failed to establish a prima facie case that would require the defendant to enter a defence.
Fayose had been on trial for several years over allegations of money laundering and financial misappropriation during his tenure as governor. However, the court ruled that the prosecution failed to provide sufficient and credible evidence linking him to the alleged offences.
Delivering the judgment, the court noted: “The prosecution failed to link the defendant to the alleged crimes in a manner that warrants this court to call upon him to open his defence.”
Meanwhile, prior to the ruling, the court granted Fayose leave to travel abroad for medical treatment, following a separate application.
