  1. Investigations have been conducted and concluded about a month ago on a similar issue by those charged with such responsibilities. Nevertheless, it is important to state that no part of the investigation linked the Delta State Accountant General, Cyril Agbele to the allegations expressed by Sahara reporters. In fact, if Sahara reporters had taken out time to properly investigate the story, the truth therein would have been discovered. Simply put, it was the office of the State Accountant General that raised an alarm and reported the case to the investigating authorities. This report is therefore a mix falsehood and half truths. I am sure that the management of the Sahara reporters was misled into publishing a story that it could not even narrate beyond the size of its caption. Granted that corruption is a major problem in Nigeria that needs to be addressed promptly, it is however very sad that those that help in the fight against corruption like Cyril Agbele are now being made victims. For avoidance of doubt, about three months ago, media reports on Delta state’s out going government clearly indicated that the same man so accused herein was very helpful in halting the purported plan by a few persons to empty the Delta state government’s treasury. These newspapers explained how Cyril Agebele saved the Delta state billions of naira that would have been used as good bye ‘gifts’ by the out going government, courtesy of reasonable coincidence of seeming ill health which did not permit Cyril Agbele’s presence in the office during the last days of the past Delta state government. Ever since then it has been one slanderous or unsubstantiated allegation against Cyril Agebele. Sahara reporters should please serve its readers better instead of assisting the failed aggrieved beneficiaries of the said inglorious ‘goodbye’ gifts to fuel false accusations against a honourable person.
