The simmering war between music star, Ayodeji Balogun a.k.a Wizkid and the Kuti family has taken a dramatic turn, as Motunrayo Kuti, daughter of Afrobeats legend, Fela Anikulapo Kuti, has publicly lashed out at the singer over his controversial claim that he is “bigger than Fela.”
Reacting angrily, Motunrayo accused Wizkid of disrespect and hypocrisy, dragging his family history into the heated exchange.
“Wizkid, you said you are bigger than Fela, right?” she stated. “You are also bigger than your useless father who abandoned you and your mum, who is now late.”
She went further, naming Wizkid’s father and insisting that Fela’s legacy remains untouchable.
“Since you said you are bigger than our father, you are also bigger than your father, Muniru Olatunji Balogun. And our father is definitely bigger than your father and mother,” she added.
Motunrayo also accused Wizkid of abandoning his baby mamas, warning that his legacy could one day suffer the same public scrutiny.
“You that abandoned your baby mamas. Don’t worry, we will all be here when they start to rubbish your own legacy too,” she said.
The explosive reaction follows Wizkid’s recent outburst on social media while responding to claims by Seun Kuti that he stole his nickname. In a series of fiery posts, Wizkid declared; “I big pass your papa!! Wetin you don do? I’m Big Wiz everyday.”
He added; “Ok everybody better pass Wizkid! Can we all sleep now? Fela fight for freedom, this fool dey fight FC! Oloshi omo ale!”
The drama began during a livestream when a Wizkid fan asked Seun Kuti to change his nickname, “Big Bird,” because Wizkid is known as “Biggest Bird.” Seun Kuti rejected the suggestion, accusing Wizkid of copying him.
“Wizkid stole my name. Tell your fave to be original,” Seun said. “This name has been here for a long time. I was the first to come up with it. I am not dragging it with anybody.”
However, what started as a nickname dispute has now exploded into a full-blown clash over legacy, respect, and the towering shadow of Fela Anikulapo Kuti, a name that continues to stir strong emotions long after his passing.
