Nigerians have been thrown into deep mourning following the death of popular gospel singer, Bunmi Akinnaanu, widely known as Omije Ojumi – a name derived from her hit song.

The gospel artiste reportedly passed away on Monday, January 12, 2026, at a hospital in Lagos.
Her colleague, Ayo Melody, confirmed the sad news on Tuesday via a brief statement shared on Instagram on behalf of the family.
The statement read: “With great sadness, we announce the passing of Evangelist Olubunmi Akinnaanu Adeoye, popularly known as Omije Ojumi. She passed away on January 12, 2026, at a Lagos hospital, Nigeria. May God grant her eternal rest.”
It would be recalled that the late singer had been battling a severe leg ailment prior to her death. Months before her demise, she had publicly appealed for prayers and divine healing.
A video that circulated online last year showed the gospel singer at G.F. David Ministries in Ibadan, Oyo State, where she was seen seated with her affected leg stretched out on a chair while a pastor prayed for her.
