The General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), Pastor Enoch Adejare Adeboye, has spoken on the lingering insecurity in the country, urging Nigeria’s service chiefs to tackle the root causes of terrorism.
Speaking against the backdrop of U.S. President Donald Trump’s recent comments indicating possible intervention in Nigeria’s security crisis, Pastor Adeboye revealed that he had already met with the service chiefs. During the meetings, he said he offered sincere advice on how to address the ongoing attacks by Boko Haram and bandits.
Pastor Adeboye stressed that those financing and enabling terrorism in Nigeria must be identified and dealt with decisively, as he believes stopping the sponsors will significantly weaken the extremists’ operations.
While reacting to President Trump’s stance, he noted that foreign nations – including China and Britain cannot resolve Nigeria’s security challenges. He urged the Nigerian government to intensify its efforts.
“The government should take action,” he said, appealing to President Trump to give Nigeria a 100-day grace period. According to him, if the service chiefs are unable to make meaningful progress within that timeframe, they should step aside.
Pastor Adeboye reminded Nigerians that he had earlier declared the year would be a remarkable one. As a spiritual measure, he called on citizens to unite in fasting and prayer, expressing confidence that Nigeria would experience peace again.
