You may have watched a production Jemila Akinwale worked on without knowing her name. While the faces on screen get much of the attention, Akinwale has spent years behind the camera, steadily building her place in Nollywood.
Her production credits stretch back to Dance 234 in 2011 and include television projects such as Ajoche, Unbroken, The Nancy Isime Show, Jollof with Me, Lahira and Masquerades of Aniedo.
Her journey has also taken her into feature films. She worked on Aníkúlápó, which premiered on Netflix in September 2022 and went on to win five awards at the 2023 Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards. Her film credits also include Ìjọ̀gbọ̀n* another production that received AMVCA nominations.
In 2024, Akinwale added House of Ga’a to her résumé, working as a line producer on the historical drama.
From television sets to major Nollywood films, hers has been a career built consistently behind the scenes. And as the projects continue to grow, Jemila Akinwale is becoming a name worth noticing when the credits roll.
