The Director-General of the Kaduna International Film Festival (KADIFF), Audu Kashim Israel, has held high-level talks with the Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of the Nigeria Social Insurance Trust Fund (NSITF), Mr. Oluwaseun Mayomi Faleye, on expanding social insurance coverage to Nigeria’s film and creative industry.
The meeting, which also had the NSITF Executive Director (Administration), Barr. Sama’ila Abdu, in attendance, focused on creating structured social insurance opportunities for practitioners across the creative value chain.
During the engagement, Audu highlighted the vulnerability of many creatives—especially youths and independent practitioners who often operate within the informal sector without access to social protection. He stressed the need for tailored insurance solutions that reflect the realities of film and creative work.
In his response, Faleye affirmed NSITF’s commitment to broadening coverage to the private and informal sectors, noting that the Fund is intensifying efforts to simplify registration processes for small businesses and independent operators. He said this approach would enable the creative industry to be effectively integrated into the national social insurance framework.
Both leaders agreed to collaborate on developing a dedicated social insurance model for creatives, aligning with NSITF’s current strategic focus on inclusive coverage for underserved sectors of the economy.
The proposed partnership is expected to enhance welfare protection, workplace safety awareness, and long-term sustainability for practitioners in Nigeria’s fast-growing film and creative industry.
