Nikolaj Coster-Waldau is swapping his position in the Kingsguard for another epic drama. The Danish actor, who spent eight seasons as Jaime Lannister navigating the treacherous politics of Game of Thrones, is back in period armour for King & Conqueror, this time alongside James Norton in a historical epic that trades Westeros for 11th-century England.
The eight-part British series lands on M-Net on Thursday, February 12, at 8PM, airing across 10 countries in Europe and Africa, as it centres around the chaotic power struggle that followed the death of King Edward in 1066.
At the centre of the drama are Harold of Wessex (James Norton) and William of Normandy (Nikolaj Coster-Waldau), who become rivals destined to meet at the Battle of Hastings in 1066, having found themselves forced by circumstance and personal obsession into a war for possession of its crown.
James Norton and Nikolaj Coster-Waldau anchor the series with performances designed to carry both intimacy and spectacle, while being supported by a heavyweight ensemble including Emily Beecham, Clémence Poésy, Juliet Stevenson, Eddie Marsan and Jean-Marc Barr. The series was created by Michael Robert Johnson.
