As the dust settles on an exciting group stage at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco, the CEO of MTN Nigeria, Dr. Karl Toriola, has showered encomiums on the Super Eagles following their flawless qualification for the Round of 16.
Speaking from the corporate headquarters in Lagos, the MTN executive, whose telecommunications giant serves as the Official Communications Partner of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), described the team’s performance as a “testament to the resilient Nigerian spirit.”
The Super Eagles soared through Group C, finishing with a maximum 9 points – a feat Nigeria has achieved only three times before in AFCON history (1992, 2006, and 2022).
Under the tactical guidance of Eric Chelle, the three-time African champions kicked off their campaign with a gritty 2–1 victory over Tanzania, followed by a high-octane 3–2 win against Tunisia that punched their ticket to the knockouts with a game to spare.
The group stage was capped off on Tuesday with a dominant 3–1 triumph over Uganda, featuring a spectacular brace from midfielder Raphael Onyedika and a clinical finish by Paul Onuachu.
With the Round of 16 approaching, the tech giant hailed the Super Eagles for their stunning 4-0 victory against Mozambique on Monday, as they meet Algeria for the quarter-finals.
“The Super Eagles have shown incredible character and dominance on the continental stage,” Toriola, MTN Nigeria CEO stated. “At MTN, we are proud to be the wind beneath their wings. Their success is about the unity and joy they bring to over 200 million Nigerians.”
Millions of fans have praised the team’s evolution since the 2023 AFCON in Côte d’Ivoire. While the Eagles enjoyed a stellar run in that edition, they ultimately fell short in a heartbreaking 2–1 final defeat to the hosts, despite a William Troost-Ekong header giving them an early lead.
As the tournament moves into the next stage, MTN has reaffirmed its commitment to keeping fans connected to the action, promising continued support for the NFF as the Super Eagles prepare for their Round of 16 clash.
