Popular Nigerian media personality and actress, Toke Makinwa, has sparked reactions after sharing her views on why some women are seen as materialistic in relationships.

Speaking in a recent interview, Makinwa argued that many Nigerian men have contributed to the growing belief that women are only interested in money. According to her, some men make money the centre of their relationships instead of building genuine connections.

She said; “From time immemorial, relationships between men and women have always involved some form of exchange, right from the Garden of Eden and even in our parents’ time. But the way it happens today, I blame the men. Sometimes, money is all they have to offer.”

“Nigerian men don’t have game apart from money. Once a man becomes wealthy, he starts spending money on the most attractive women. Sometimes, you meet a man who should be trying to get to know you, but instead, he immediately starts offering you money.

“I’ve seen men offer women the strangest things, and it made me realise that many men believe money is all they need to impress a woman. Most women who are seen as materialistic today were taught to make those demands by men.”
