Obiano Released After One Week In EFCC Custody

Former Governor Willie Obiano of Anambra State has finally been released by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

Obiano spent one week in EFCC detention. He was arrested moments after handing over to his successor, Prof. Charles Chukwuma Soludo on Thursday.

Obiano was nabbed by the EFCC at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos on his way to the United States.

Obiano was however, granted administrative bail on Wednesday but was waited upon by the EFCC for him to fulfil his bail conditions.

Meanwhile, the EFCC has withheld his passport as part of his bail condition.

For those who don’t know, Obiano was arrested for alleged misappropriation of public funds, including N5 billion Sure-P and N37 billion security vote which was withdrawn in cash. Part of the funds was also allegedly diverted to finance political activities in the state.
