Popular Nigerian comedian and actor, Okechukwu Anthony Onyegbule, popularly known as Okey Bakassi, has debunked social media rumours alleging that his 25-year marriage to his wife, Ezinne, has collapsed.
Reports circulating online claimed that Ezinne had allegedly filed for divorce, 15 years after Okey Bakassi reportedly relocated her and their children to the United States to study nursing, while he remained in Nigeria to work and support the family financially.
However, reacting to the claims in a video shared on his Instagram page, the comedian dismissed the reports, reassuring fans that his marriage remained intact.
He said; “Please, my wife and I are still together. God forbid anything will ever happen to us.”
Expressing displeasure over the reports, Okey Bakassi accused an individual of deliberately spreading false information about his family.
“Someone was busy on social media trying to disrespect me and my family. One idiot, one charlatan went on social media and created an article with my name, my picture with that of my wife on it, alleging that we have gone our separate ways,” he said.
He added that the false report had caused concern among friends, family members and fans, many of whom had reached out to him and his wife for clarification.
“Since then, friends, family and fans have been calling me and my wife from all over the world with this troubling news. We just celebrated our 25th wedding anniversary in Canada,” he stated.
The comedian further clarified that some details contained in the report were inaccurate, stressing that his wife does not live in the United States and is not a nurse, contrary to the claims made in the article.
“Those of you who are close to me know that my wife does not live in the US and she’s not a nurse as reported by the author of that article,” he added.
