Olubadan Dies At 81, To Be Buried Today By 4pm

The city of Ibadan has been thrown into mourning following the death of its king, Oba Lekan Balogun.

The king known by the title Olubadan of Ibadanland, joined his ancestors on Thursday, March 14th, 2024 at the age of 81.

The monarch we gathered died after a brief illness. He joined his ancestors at the age of 81.

The deceased younger brother, Dr Kola Balogun disclosed this in a statement by the Personal Assistant (Media) to the late monarch, Oladele Ogunsola.

He said; “Oba Balogun was taken to the hospital on Wednesday morning having stayed indoor throughout Tuesday on account of slight malaria fever, though, he was hail and hearty on Monday during which he personally received few guests that paid him congratulatory visits on his second year anniversary on that day.”

“Oba Balogun will be buried at his Aliiwo ancestral home by 4.00pm on Friday according to Islamic rites. The State Governor, Seyi Makinde, though already verbally informed, will be formally notified early in the morning.”

For those who don’t know, Oba Lekan Balogun spent only two years on throne as the Olubadan of Ibadanland.

It is interesting to know that the late Olubadan was the first most educated to have emerged as Ibadan monarch. He was a British trained Ph.D holder, a former university lecturer, former member of management staff of Shell British Petroleum, former gubernatorial candidate of the defunct Nigeria People’s Party (NPP), former Senator and a successful business man.

Oba Lekan Balogun is survived by wives, children and grandchildren.
