Veteran journalist and former presidential spokesperson, Dr. Reuben Abati, has come down hard on Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, Peter Obi, over his recent promise to serve only a single term if elected president.
Obi, known for his populist appeals and down-to-earth rhetoric, had stated that he would only need four years to transform the country, a statement that has now drawn the ire of Abati.
Blasting the pledge as hollow and desperate, Abati did not mince words.
He said; “Peter Obi’s ‘I’ll do one term, I’ll serve you food’ gimmick will not work. That’s not leadership that’s performance art!”
“When a politician starts promising one term upfront, it’s not strategy it’s a red flag. It’s a sign of desperation.”
“This talk of serving food, carrying plates, and doing boy-boy duties at events better left to professional organisers is nothing but optics empty gestures.”
“Until Nigerians are politically mature enough to vote for competence over tribe, religion, or showbiz, this country won’t move forward. All this ‘I will do one term, I will serve you food’ it’s not leadership. It’s not going to work.”
