These are certainly not the best of times for Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, as members of the State House of Assembly have initiated impeachment proceedings against him and his deputy, Ngozi Odu.

The Speaker of the House, Martins Amaewhule, who presided over the plenary session on Thursday, announced the move after the Majority Leader, Major Jack, read a notice detailing allegations of gross misconduct against the governor.

The notice, endorsed by 26 lawmakers, accused Governor Fubara of actions allegedly in violation of the Nigerian Constitution. Amaewhule disclosed that the notice would be served on the governor within the next seven days.

Similarly, during the same sitting, the Deputy Majority Leader, Linda Stewart, read out a separate notice outlining allegations of gross misconduct against the Deputy Governor, Ngozi Odu.
