The detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, has been convicted of terrorism.
Justice James Omotosho of the Federal High Court in Abuja sentenced him to life imprisonment after finding him guilty on all seven terrorism charges brought against him.
Meanwhile, popular Islamic cleric, Sheikh Ahmad Gumi, has pledged to champion calls for Kanu’s release, but only on the condition that the IPOB leader shows remorse.
He said: “If Nnamdi Kanu, who is in prison for terrorism and threatening to kill our soldiers, shows remorse and calls for peace, I will be at the forefront in calling for his pardoning and amnesty for him.”
