Former Big Brother Naija housemate, Natacha Akide, popularly known as Tacha, has slammed critics of Nigerian chess star, Tunde Onakoya over his post describing himself as the “first Nigerian to play chess at the Louvre.”
Expressing disappointment at the backlash, the reality TV star decried what she described as growing discrimination on social media.
Taking to her page, she wrote; “When I see Nigerians talk about racism, I just laugh. Because we’re some of the most discriminatory and segregating people to ever exist.”
“I’ve experienced racism, yes, but if you see what Nigerians do to fellow Nigerians every day on this app is worse. And to be honest, if we were in their position, we would probably do worse.”
“To be honest, I love the way Tunde has handled this whole situation because clearly this is not the first time they are coming at him.”
“They came at this guy to the point where he had to leave this app, but not anymore. And it is good that he is standing for himself.”
“So when they see people succeeding and impacting the real world positively, they hate and get bitter.”
For those who don’t know, Tunde Onakoya faced backlash after sharing a video of himself playing chess in a traditional agbada at the open plaza outside the Louvre Museum.
He captioned the clip as “a milestone moment,” describing himself as the “first Nigerian to play chess at the Louvre” and presenting it as a cultural achievement.
However, the post drew criticism from some observers, who argued that the location is a public space outside the museum, open to anyone and noted that there are no official records to substantiate the claim.
