Tragedy struck in Oyo State on Wednesday, March 11, 2026, when a passenger bus plunged into a river in Ibadan, leaving three people dead while five others were rescued alive.

The Chairman of Oyo State Fire Service, Maroof Akinwande confirmed the incident in a statement issued on Thursday.
Akinwande said; “A Suzuki bus (Osun) LEW 484 XA with eight (8) passengers lost control and crashed into a river, five (5) persons rescued alive and conveyed to Ona – Ara private hospital Jegede area, while three (3) persons recovered and handed over to a team of policemen from Ogbere Divisional headquarters led by ASP Aishat Ibrahim.”
“A crew of Oyo State Road Transport Management Agency (OYRTMA) from Ona Ara division and Hon. Glorious Temitope, Chairman, Ona Ara Local Government were in attendance. The incident was as a result of reckless driving”.
