Africa’s Global Bank, United Bank for Africa (UBA) Plc, has extended its condolences to the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) and the families of those who lost their lives in the NAF 931 aircraft crash, following a condolence visit by the Bank’s Group Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer, Oliver Alawuba, to the Chief of Air Staff, Air Marshal Sunday Kelvin Aneke, at the NAF Headquarters in Abuja.

The visit, which took place on Monday, was an expression of solidarity with the Nigerian Air Force following the tragic crash in Ondo State, which claimed the lives of crew members and passengers.
During the meeting, Alawuba conveyed his heartfelt sympathy to the Air Chief and the bereaved families, acknowledging the profound loss suffered by the Service and the nation.
“I felt it was important to come personally to convey my heartfelt sympathy to you and the entire Nigerian Air Force over this tragic loss. Please accept my condolences and extend them to all the families affected by this tragedy,” Alawuba said.
“We recognise the weight of this moment, particularly the responsibility of leading the Service while navigating such a painful loss. Our thoughts and prayers are with you and everyone affected. We pray for the peaceful repose of the souls of the departed and for God to grant their families the strength and comfort to bear this irreparable loss.”
Reaffirming UBA’s solidarity with the Nigerian Air Force, Alawuba stressed that the Bank’s relationship with the institution extends beyond banking services to a shared commitment to the welfare of its personnel and their families.
“Please be assured of our friendship and support. UBA stands with the Nigerian Air Force and remains committed to supporting the welfare of its personnel and their loved ones. May God comfort the bereaved families, strengthen you in this difficult period and grant the entire Service the fortitude to overcome this loss,” he added.
UBA and the Nigerian Air Force share a longstanding relationship encompassing the banking needs of military personnel and their families, alongside support for the institution’s development initiatives. The condolence visit underscores the Bank’s commitment to building relationships that go beyond business to reflect empathy, solidarity and a genuine concern for the people and institutions serving Nigeria.
The gesture also reflects UBA’s broader commitment to putting people at the centre of its business, through customer-focused financial services, institutional partnerships and investments in youth empowerment and sustainable development.
