That billionaire businessman, Tony Elumelu, CFR is the Chairman of Africa’s leading financial institution, United Bank for Africa (UBA) Plc. is an established fact.
That the business magnate is also the Chairman of Heirs Holding, and Founder of the leading philanthropy empowering young African entrepreneurs from all the 54 African countries, Tony Elumelu Foundation (TEF) is equally an established fact.
Be that as it may, millions of Nigerians do not know how Tony Elumelu emerged one of the most sort after investors in Africa.
Giving an insight on his journey in the finanancial sector, Elumelu, took to his Facebook page and recounted.
He wrote; “This is me – aged 34! I had just become CEO of Standard Trust Bank and one of the youngest bank CEOs in Nigeria. It was a time of fast-paced change in our industry, and reform-minded policymakers had opened up paths for consolidation and strengthening our sector. Competition was intense – but youth was not a barrier. I owed my accelerated career and successes to two things: hard work and luck, and I know firsthand how these factors are inextricable in success.”
