As the 2027 general election draws closer, political parties and their candidates are increasingly scrutinising their opponents’ weaknesses in a bid to strengthen their campaigns and win public support.

The presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Peter Obi, has questioned President Bola Tinubu’s capacity to lead Nigeria, urging him to leave office after his current tenure in 2027 over concerns about his energy and commitment to leadership.
Obi made the call while speaking at the inauguration of the NDC National Campaign Council in Abuja.
He said: “Above all, President Tinubu does not have the energy and resolve required to lead Nigeria today, and he must go home.
“We need him to go home. Nigeria cannot be governed with the energy he has today. Nigeria needs a president who will be available and present.
“The purpose of governance is to solve problems, not to blame people. I will not blame anybody. We will create that new Nigeria that is possible.”
Obi’s remarks come after Tinubu announced that he would not attend every campaign rally ahead of the 2027 general election, citing the need to focus on governance and national responsibilities, including debt payments.
The former Anambra State governor also criticised Tinubu’s October 24 campaign launch in Kaduna, accusing the president of blaming the opposition instead of accounting for the outcomes of the 2023, 2024 and 2025 budgets.
